Program-Based Qualification Method:
You can qualify for Lifeline in New Jersey if you or another person in your household is enrolled in any one of these qualifying public assistance programs:
- Medicaid
- Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Federal Public Housing Assistance or Section 8
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — formerly Food Stamps
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
- Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit Programs
Tribal Lands Qualification:
If you live on Tribal lands in New Jersey, you may also qualify through:
- Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
- Head Start (only households meeting the income qualifying standard)
- Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (Tribal TANF)
- Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations
Income-Based Qualification:
You can also qualify if your household income is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, based on household size.
