Independent guide — not the government, not a Lifeline provider

Optimum (Altice) · Updated August 2026

Optimum Advantage Internet: low-income home internet explained.

Optimum's ACP credit ended with the federal program in June 2024. Optimum Advantage Internet is the company's surviving low-income plan: up to 100 Mbps for $15/month with free installation, no data cap, and no contract. Eligibility is one of the broadest around — SNAP, Medicaid, SSI (65+), WIC, NSLP/CEP, Federal Public Housing Assistance, a federal Pell Grant, VA benefits, Lifeline enrollment, or income at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Optimum and the ACP: what changed

Optimum participated in the Affordable Connectivity Program until funding ran out on June 1, 2024, and its ACP information pages are still live — which is why searches for 'Optimum affordable connectivity program' still land there. The credit itself is gone. Optimum Advantage Internet is the program you can actually enroll in now, and at $15/month it's priced close to what many households paid under ACP.

How Optimum Advantage Internet works

Advantage Internet delivers up to 100 Mbps download speed for $15/month, with free installation, a free modem and router, no data caps, and no annual contract. It's available to new Optimum residential customers — or former customers who have been disconnected for at least 60 days — at addresses in Optimum's service area.

Who qualifies

Optimum's eligibility list is one of the broadest of any ISP program: SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, Supplemental Security Income (for applicants 65 and older), the National School Lunch Program or a Community Eligibility Provision school, Federal Public Housing Assistance, a federal Pell Grant, VA pension or survivors benefits, current Lifeline enrollment, household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines — and in New York City, attending a public school qualifies a household directly.

New Yorkers: the $15 broadband law

Separate from Advantage, New York's Affordable Broadband Act requires large ISPs in the state to offer eligible low-income households broadband at $15/month (at least 25 Mbps) or $20/month (at least 200 Mbps). If you're in Optimum's New York footprint and don't fit the Advantage criteria, ask Optimum about the state-mandated plan — the eligibility list (SNAP, Medicaid, free school lunch, and similar) overlaps heavily.

Can you stack Lifeline on top?

Optimum doesn't advertise Lifeline integration on Advantage Internet, and at $15/month the price is already near the program floor. If applying your $9.25/month Lifeline benefit to home internet matters to you, AT&T, Cox, and Spectrum handle Lifeline on their low-income plans explicitly — compare in our Lifeline internet guide. Otherwise, keep Lifeline on your phone service and take Advantage's flat $15 price.
