Xfinity Internet Essentials: low-income home internet explained.
Xfinity's ACP credit ended with the federal program in June 2024, but Comcast's Internet Essentials — the largest low-income internet program in the US, running since 2011 — is still active. Internet Essentials costs $14.95/month (up to 75 Mbps); Internet Essentials Plus costs $29.95/month (up to 100 Mbps). Households qualify through any federal assistance program or income at or below 200% FPG.

Xfinity and the ACP: what changed
Comcast was one of the largest ACP participants, and its old ACP pages still rank in search — which is why so many people still look for the 'Xfinity affordable connectivity program.' That discount ended June 1, 2024 with the program itself. Internet Essentials is what you can enroll in now, and for most former ACP households it's the cheapest replacement on the market.
How Xfinity Internet Essentials works
Internet Essentials has been Comcast's flagship low-income internet program since 2011. Two tiers: Internet Essentials ($14.95/month, up to 75 Mbps down) and Internet Essentials Plus ($29.95/month, up to 100 Mbps down). Includes Wi-Fi equipment at no extra charge. No credit check, no installation fee, no term contract.
Eligibility is broad
Participation in any of these qualifies: SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, Section 8 housing, WIC, National School Lunch Program, tribal programs, or households with income at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. Notably broader than Lifeline's 135% FPG cap.
Stacking with federal Lifeline
Yes — apply the $9.25/month federal Lifeline benefit to Xfinity Internet Essentials. Net monthly cost drops to $5.70 (on Internet Essentials) or $20.70 (on Internet Essentials Plus). Apply for Lifeline first via USAC's National Verifier, then transfer the benefit during Xfinity signup.
The $149.99 laptop perk
Internet Essentials customers can buy a new Dell laptop or Chromebook for $149.99 plus tax through the program — one of the few remaining device deals since ACP's $100 device discount ended. If a computer is part of what you need, this perk alone can justify choosing Xfinity.
